Live Oaks Inn
Once the choice of the 19th century rich and famous, the Live Oaks Inn now serves as a historic bed and breakfast in Daytona Beach, Florida. As one of the oldest properties in the area, the Inn has a very colorful history.
The land the Inn sits on was once the Orange Grove Plantation, owned by Samuel Williams. The many acres of citrus and sugar cane were later purchased by Matthias Day, and it was here that Day founded the town of Daytona Beach. A piece of this land then found its way to Myron Peck, through his brother Riley Peck, and Myron built his home there in 1880. Vinton Fisher transformed the two Beach Street houses into a bed and breakfast in 1987. The property has changed hands several times since and has seen a full renovation under the guidance of the Historic Preservation Board.
Despite several changes in ownership and management, and even in name, the Inn can’t quite escape the grasp of its former guests. The property, which has a proud home in the National Registry of Historic Places, has reportedly been a hot spot for spirits…the ghostly kind. The Inn’s reputation continues to flourish despite the unconfirmed rumors of what we are sure would be friendly apparitions.
In 2012, it was renamed from the Live Oak Inn to The White Hammock Inn. Along with the new name, the owners at the time brought in a new design perspective in the form of John Gidding. Gidding was the host of the HGTV renovation show, Curb Appeal: The Block. The big-name designer brought national attention to the bed and breakfast.
In 2018, the Inn has reopened under new local ownership. They are fully committed to restoring and maintaining the historical significance and style of this Daytona Beach landmark, and thus it is once again the Live Oaks Inn. Guests can choose from four unique, period themed rooms for their stay. All guests are invited to enjoy the public areas of the inn which include the parlor, dining room, sun porch as well as the stately oak trees that name the Inn.
